League Format:
1. Stick-Skills
-Box Lacrosse is a fast-paced game played in tight spaces. Players MUST learn to have great stick skills and pick the spots they shoot at. Being accurate with your stick is a must in box lacrosse, this is also true for defensive players who must hone their skills with a shorty!
2. Lacrosse IQ and Decision Making
-Because Box Lacrosse is so fast and the field space is shortened players typically only have a few seconds to make a decision before the defense closes in on them. Since the game is back and forth players will get tons of reps. This creates an ocean of opportunity for players to hone their Lacrosse IQ and decision-making!
3. Repetitions!
-When playing box there is no out of bounds so teams typically put up lots of shots and in return goals. Players get alot of playing time since it's a physical sport there are tons of sub.
4. Body Control and Handling Pressure
-Offensive players learn how to handle the ball much better since there playing in close quarters. You'll notice players learn how to use their bodies better to shield their sticks from checks. Players must also learn how to shoot around the defense! For defensive players, there is no better way to learn and hone your skills than playing with a shorty. Not relying on a 6ft pole, playing using positioning and footwork is a must.
5. Off-Ball Movement/Communication
-What becomes blatantly obvious is that off-ball movement is just as important as on-ball movement. The game is so fast that there isn't much waiting around, players must learn how to get open using picks and by cutting with the Defense all over them. On the defensive side learning to communicate is the key to great team defense as offensive players will try and pick, cut, and bully their way to the goal!
